Ards bounced back from last week’s heavy defeat to UCC with a 3-1 win against Lurgan in the EYHL2 on Saturday afternoon.
The win also sees Ards make it three wins from as many games against Lurgan this campaign.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock when Lydia McNeil got the opening goal of the game with just four minutes on the clock.
But their lead would only last ten minutes as Ellen Robinson drew Ards level before she got her second of the game on the brink of half-time to make it 2-1 to the hosts.
Midway through the third quarter, the result was put beyond doubt when Naomi Grundie converted from a penalty corner to make 3-1 to the home side and seal all three points.
The result keeps Ards second in Pool B whilst Lurgan are now three games without a win in the competition.
In Pool A, Belfast Harlequins were thrashed 6-2 by top of the group Cork Harlequins.
The Ulster side were 3-0 down inside five minutes when Michelle Barry struck twice in quick succession before Beth-Anne O’Farrell added a third in the opening stages of the fixture.
With 25 minutes on the clock Rachel O’Shea made it 4-0 to the hosts whilst O’Farrell got her second of the game on the brink of half-time to continue the dominant start to the game.
Having gone into the break trailing by five, Harlequins got two goals in quick succession themselves as Jennifer McAuley reduced the deficit to 5-2.
However, it was the hosts who struck last as Emma Cripps 57th minute penalty corner made it 6-2 to Cork and rounded off their brilliant performance.
In the Legacy Ulster Women’s Premier League Armagh ended their poor run of form with a 4-2 win against Banbridge.
The already relegated side had lost 12 games in a row prior to yesterday’s result and recorded just their second win of the season.
Rachel Hewitt had given Banbridge the lead from a penalty corner early in the first quarter, but two goals from Chelsea Hird and Scarlett Taylor gave Armagh the lead at the break.
A second strike from Hewitt saw Banbridge draw level midway through the second quarter, but again it was the hosts who struck next.
Two more strikes from Hird saw the forward complete her hat-trick and put her side 4-2 ahead before half time.
With a goalless second half it was the side who sit bottom of the table who took all three points and end their season on a high.
