Queen’s University are one step closer to the Legacy Ulster Women’s Premier League title after beating rivals Ards 2-1 on Saturday.
The win now puts the students eight points clear of second place with just four games left to play.
It was Ards who broke the deadlock with Frankie Brown finding the net from open play with just three minutes on the clock.
Having kept their advantage until the half-time break, it was then Queen’s who got the second half off to a flying start.
The League’s top scorer Alyssa Jebb got her 15th goal of the campaign from a penalty corner to draw her side level with 38 minutes played.
Meanwhile just two minutes into the final quarter Jenna McCarlie completed the comeback for her side as she made it 2-1 with a fantastic solo effort and sealed the points for the League leaders.
Elsewhere in the division, Banbridge took a step towards safety as they beat an in-form Ballymoney 3-1 at Havelock Park.
Goals from Rachel Cairns and Emma Lindsay gave the home side a two-goal advantage going into the half-time break.
Ballymoney did manage to get a goal of their own back after a series of short corners, but it proved to only be a consolation strike.
Banbridge got the next goal of the game to restore their lead and take all three points when Sam Bann made it 3-1 in the final quarter.
The final game from the division saw Lurgan beat Belfast Harlequins 1-0 with the result moving them into third in the table.
The loss also sees Quins stay in fifth as they suffered defeat for the first time in three games.
There were also two games in the Denman Shield the first of which saw Pegasus beat a youthful Portadown 4-2 at The Dub.
Goals from Alex Speers (2) Stephanie McDonald and Katie McDonald sealed the victory despite two Portadown consolation strikes.
The win makes it maximum points for the side having also beaten Ulster Elks midweek and confirms their status as group winners.
Lisnagarvey ladies ensured they topped group two as they eased past Omagh with a 6-0 victory.
Three first-half goals from Lara Wilson, Aimee Christie and Viki Kennedy gave the visitors a healthy advantage at the midway stage before Wilson got her second and Megan Robinson got one of her own.
There was still time for one more goal as Christie also got her second of the game and sealed her side’s spot in the next round.
